The Hawaiian Islands

It does this momma's heart good to look out and see
lots and lots of kids of all ages working and playing together...
getting lost in the "work..."
(and I, by the way, get to enjoy a nice chat with my friends)
perfect summer day...and Buttercup is sentinel
Do you see them??? The Hawaiian islands, volcano and all?
girlfriends...I've always believed we need more sand and water
for all ages.

yummy!

gifting...

A lovely gift of flowers came for Grandma today from loved ones far away... This sweet act of thoughtfulness will echo for days and days to come.
Thanks bro, D & EC...

Sunday Mornings...

McGyver’s family has a long tradition of oatmeal on Sunday mornings before church ...so, bless him, my husband makes wonderful, raisin oatmeal with creamy milk instead of water every Sunday morning.

Now, the kids aren’t always keen on oatmeal...what’s a mom, a loving wife to do?
I
I try to add some treat to the feast...last week was the Sweet Nest Fresh Apple Cake (halved the recipe)...oooooh so good. This week, apple scones. This will please some, but poor Livie just wants fried onions and potatoes. I don’t think I can get by with that without McGyver suspecting something... sorry, Babe...

Showers of Blessing!

"Mom! Come see!"
There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love.
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Saviour above.
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy drops round us are falling,

But for the showers we plead.

...and I will cause showers to come down in their season;
they will be showers of blessing. Ezekiel 35:7

reading and following...

We sure love to read at our house...

“Now I’ll be stuck in books like Hope and we’ll both have fun!” (after reading a page of a Magic School Bus reader)

(This picture is from a year ago...)

There's a long tradition of following in the elder's foot steps...

MacGyver

You might have been wondering what my MacGyver looks like...still learning how to do this posting thing!

I married MacGyver

MacGyver (my hero)...named after a handsome ‘80s television hero that could use his brains, a pocket knife and a roll of duct tape to save people and nations and to solve unimaginable problems.

I’ve always said I married MacGyver...more handsome than the TV type and mine solves problems, repairs anything, builds, creates in real life...and I get to snuggle with him every night. (One slow day I’ll tell you the original MacGyver story)

Last night with my eyelids heavy, my hero finished our bedroom floor. Like I said, he can do anything. I woke this morning to all of the old carpet gone and new, lovely, wooden laminate in its place. I am blessed...

beginnings...

beginnings...blogging, I never thought I'd be a 'blogger..." But as I thought and prayed and realized what a treasure it would be to have a piece of my life as a child recorded, I thought I'd give it a try. What fun my mom and I would have reliving those memories saved. How I would love to see a blog of my mother's life...

Lovely Anna at Sweetnest encouraged me and even gave me an afternoon to get me started...thank you my friend. (And thank you Peter for the delicious molasses cookies.)

My son (JD) asked me what I have to blog about...good question. I’m hoping...praying...this will be a snapshot into our family’s life that will be a reminder of good, sweet times...a reminder of God’s faithfulness to us. I’m hoping just the exercise of doing this will help all of us to not miss the moments. So, as much as I hope there might be a laugh or two, a good recipe or idea here for anyone who wants a peek at my little blog, it is for my family that I write.
